About

Sam Martin was born in 1990 in Connecticut. She developed a passion for costuming when she discovered the world of cosplay. Her costuming career began in the University of Connecticut costume shop while she pursued her undergraduate degree in Classics, and proceeded through UConn’s MFA program for costume design. Outside of classes, she founded and ran UConn’s Cosplay Club for three years, organizing events, running workshops, and mentoring newcomers to the craft. She designed costumes for Connecticut Repertory Theatre’s Legally Blonde and Cloud 9.  After graduating, Sam moved to Boston to pursue a career in theatrical costume construction. She has worked as a stitcher/draper at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee for six years, and has done additional freelance work around the city. She continues to create her own costumes as well, attending historical balls and cosplay events. She has a particular interest in period menswear.
